  • SpyderCanopus

    What is the stream URL?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andrewfear Andrew Fear

    Hi
The live stream will be placed on http://www.masters.com/3D

  • Patrick

Please note that the “Quick guide on how to fire up the player” link above provides a high bitrate test stream that can be used by 3D Vision users to test their setup ahead of the live streaming from Masters.com

  • Anthony

Really cool, the beginning of great things, but I have to ask, why golf?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andrewfear Andrew Fear

Golf actually makes a great 3D broadcast since it has nice static shots, great depth, and interesting colors.

  • Nore

I don’t get it.. I’ve never heard of Eastern Daylight Time, can you please state the time in GMT +/- x so that I can convert it into the time we have in Sweden? And there’s nothing about any URL at http://www.masters.com/3D, shouldn’t they post it since (if I got this EDT thing right) the tournament is to begin now?

  • http://yfrog.com/1ygfcrj Cole

Mm alright, what is the url I paste into the player now that it is 3pm?

  • http://profile.typepad.com/turls88 Turls88

What Cole said. . .anybody got Comcast to see if it is working for them?

  • http://www.masters.com/3D/ tom

Hmm lets see when it starts

  • http://www.tru3d.com Tony Welch

URL stream is NOT WORKING, states that it needs a codec? I have virtually every codec installed on my machine and have never had any issues with any format. What am I doing wrong here?

  • http://www.masters.com/3D/ tom

Uhm guys lets wait 3 hours again :p its now 12:10 so ….
its gona be late tonight over here xD

  • John

Why is there no URL at masters.com/3d? The event started 15 minutes ago. Can someone please post the URL. Thanks.

  • josh

    what is the url

  • http://profile.typepad.com/turls88 Turls88

So Masters.com/3D can’t post an update and we can’t get one from Nvidia either? Amateur night. . .

  • Keith

Has anyone gotten the URL yet?

  • http://www.tru3d.com Tony Welch

This type of thing (feed simply isn’t working) is what prevents 3D from being well received by consumers. Our phones are ringing like crazy from customers that have purchased from us at tru3d.com and cannot receive this feed while using the exact instructions provided. Who is monitoring this thread? Please give exact instructions and requirements.
We need to provide immediate response to our customers which are both Nvidia 3D vision and Tridef 3D Experience users, all of which have stereoscopic player installed also.
Thank you ahead of time for any assistance that you can provide.

  • David

No luck here either: file format is not supported error. I guess I’ll try again next year

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andrewfear Andrew Fear

    Hi All
The 3D URL is now live, enjoy!
Copy this into your Browser mms://a370.l858334369.c8583.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/370/8583/v0001/reflector:34369

nVIDIA side-by-side Test is fine on my monitor
Despite that, and of installing all latest version of drivers and S3D Player, I get the following error:
Error: nVIDIA 3D Vision player was not able to play this URL!
Reason: Could not render all streams. Maybe a codec necessary to play this file is not installed!
    Filename: http://www.masters.com/3D

lol, ok guys, looks like the new URL provided above works just fine – hope you have good internet speed! LOOKS AMAZING!!! let’s all start welcoming sports bars and venues to the 3D customer base (and homes of course).

  • http://profile.typepad.com/turls88 Turls88

If you have Vista you may be SOL. I think Nvidia was looking into issues with Vista.

  • David

Ok all good now. Looks pretty cool

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andrewfear Andrew Fear

    Attention Windows Vista Isers,
We found a solution to the crashes you are experiencing with a hotfix from Microsoft. Here is the link to download it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979127/en-us
Plesae let us know your results.

The link is now live at mms://a370.l858334369.c8583.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/370/8583/v0001/reflector:34369
Sorry it took a little extra time to get it published. Is it working for you?

  • BlackShark

Tried it, it’s working. Unfortunately bandwidth isn’t any better for me than the nvidia test stream. I can barely watch 5 seconds at a time, and that only when stereoscopic player doesn’t crash inbetween two bufferings.

  • this is david

awesome awesome awesome except for my internet speed

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andrewfear Andrew Fear

Wow did anyone else just see Jim Furyk’s hole in one?? Wow!

  • http://www.cine3D.com Jordi Alonso

with the new URL, I got connection to the 720p for 2 seconds and then freezes, images are in side-by-side only, but doesn’t swith to 3D mode.
Something is wrong in the new version 1.5.5 of the 3D Vision Player?
I am not able to see in 3D any of my content anymore, when you say “Full Screen” it turns into side-by-side and does not kick in the shutter glasses
I have to reconfigure 3D Vision because it does not recognize the 3D screen anymore.

  • http://www.masters.com/3D/ tom

Omg it takes 20 sec to load 4 secs of the movie >.< i can download at 1.2 mb/sec and still its not good enough :(

  • http://www.cine3D.com Jordi Alonso

After reinstalling 3D Vision driver, things are back to normal.
Now just problems with steraming bandwidth, but at least 3D play is restored to normal operation.
I was able to see a few frames in 3D from Augusta :-)
    Thanks for your support!
Will contact tomorrow to see if Akamai has opened the pipe in Spain :-)

  • http://profile.typepad.com/andrewfear Andrew Fear

    Hope everyone enjoyed day 1!

  • http://www.masters.com/3D/ tom

not really just get better servers (maybe in europe) :p so i and all the rest could watch the movie without lag or errors
seeya (hopefully this wil be fixed tommorow)^^

  • http://yfrog.com/1ygfcrj Cole

Got it working now and it looks incredible. WOW. The stream quality isn’t as high resolution as I want it to be and it’s a bit artifact-y, but it’s smooth and the 3D effect is really incredible. Sports are going to be changed pretty hardcore with this technology.

  • David Von Raesfeld

This looks great in 3D! I’m simply amazed. Will there be any other events in 3D?

  • http://www.tru3d.com Tony Welch

    Andrew -
It was a great viewing experience with 3D Vision. We were looking back at some 3D DVR footage, it looks great with beautiful perspectives of Augusta. I may simply love 3D, but this seems to be history in the making. Seeing this accomplishment by the 3D industry achieved so quickly really motivates our business and provides value the total 3D market.
We’ve already heard great responses from many people that really enjoyed the broadcast.
We wish we had made a contribution to the effort somehow, so I wanted to pass along some great topics and debates that we were having. Some PC users seem to be having bandwidth issues on the 10mb/s minimum speed req. Too bad there wasn’t time for them to setup a 3D HD web browser based player or else that uses compression for quality+bandwidth. Nvidia and their affiliates have the resources to create something similar to the new YouTube 3D player but for live 3D stream events etc. Netflix collaboration maybe, or simply have a ‘gateway’ to the event behind a paypal/credit card transaction. We’re curious to see what’s in the future for Nvidia 3DTV Play, 3D HTPCs and other 3D service appliances.
The same topic brought us to discussing compression and single layer multiplexed 3D formats for web streaming such as above/below and side-by-side. We noticed that the Masters Tournament 3D stream is going out in half width side-by-side, not full width side-by-side or half height above-below. If bandwidth limits impose a sacrifice of width or height in the transmission format wouldn’t above/below retain better parallax/separation definition and overall 3D viewing quality? Since stereoscopic vision is made possible by difference in parallax between left and right eye and separation along the horizontal axis, wouldn’t it retain the highest quality 3D experience to sacrifice vertical height pixels rather than horizontal width pixels? It seems that half width side-by-side throws away a lot of pixels that help us perceive parallax difference between the left and right views making certain objects at certain depths look less rounded and more like cardboard cut outs. I could be way out of my league here, but it seems to make sense.
Looking forward to the next stream!~

  • http://www.cine3d.com Jordi Alonso

Looks like my answer didn’t go through.
All technical issues fixed: THANKS Andrew!
Just problems of bandwidth, I hope Akamai dedicates more pipes to this event.
2 seconds of 3D and need to reload again.

  • http://www.cine3d.com Jordi Alonso

I think the main point is that broadcasts are broadcasted in interlaced 50i or 60i, so then the above/below configuration might suffer more issues.
    Just a guess ;-)

  • serjcoi

i have 2 mb internet speed i’m from Romania and i have no lagg the video play constant and no problem i watch the live 3D golf last night until i fall slpeey !!

LIVE EVENTS is absolutely where it’s at for 3D (aside from video games of-course) 3D Live sports can get very complicated due to the 3D production variances for each type of sport and my discerning eye is very impressed with this years broadcasts including the Masters Tournament.
It will be interesting to see where 3D production technology lands for each sport and if anyone can come up with very flexible capture rigs that reach beyond the limits of simple side-by-side or beam-splitter based technology.
Did you catch the broadcast of live 3D NHL game in NY a few weeks ago (march 24th, i believe)? It was a different experience than the Masters 3D all together, and both have been ASTOUNDING! It is interesting to see how the technical details of shooting in 3D impact the experience for different sports based on the setting and what types of rigs you can use. IE – You can maintain short distance shots and have great 3D separation for both the players and Hockey rink whereas golf has short range player shots and long range landscape scenery.
Last year, it was obvious that 3D live action production was a new science to 99% of the industry. When we watched the Dallas Mavericks game last year in 3D, streaming to a theater Live from AA center it was almost embarrassing how poor the quality was… additionally the BCS title football game had serious convergence problems and they even got the eyes reversed at one point and both experienced multiple feed drops. That is NOT the case this year! The new events and broadcasts this year REALLY LOOK GREAT! The quality and diversity of broadcasts this year serve as proof that the industry is making extreme progress. I am very confident that it will be completely worthwhile to immediately add 3D pay-per-view and 3D channel service when it is available from Comcast and DirectTV later this summer.
We’ve heard rumor of a new 3D rig that can capture both upclose and distant objects that require different parallax while blending them into one video signal with good separation and effect for both the close and distant objects from the same camera?? sounds like sci-fi, but if it exists….

  • http://www.tru3d.com Tony Welch

That makes sense and a very interesting point, would this be the case for 1080p and 720p signals or just 1080i.

  • Joe

Watched it for 3 min. Very poor 3D. Looked like flat images on different layers. Players on first layer, fans on another, and the trees on the third layer.

  • ttwixx

    добрый день у меня такая-же ошибка как и у Jordi Алонсо но у меня win7 как быть?спасибо

  • Eric

Si c’est comme les vidéos proposées par Nvidia on est pas près de voir d’autres sélections avant des mois…
    Fausse joie
