Windows 8 is going to fail due to metro….

Can’t say I’ll like Windows 8. It’s kinda pushing away from the basic look of a computer. It’s too big of a step for me. I like the classic desktop with the icons and taskbar. This is too weird. Sorry. Dislike. :(

This is awesome. Sounds like you guys are proud of what you are doing. I love gaming on windows and cannot wait to get my PC back.

  • Tavros1

I’m looking forward to this, guys.  Thanks for your work.

I have the same thoughts about Windows 8. For tablets the metro UI will be fine but for a desktop NO WAY. We’re not 60+ seniors who can’t find things we need. But all the way nVidia is the best ;)

You do know you CAN TURN metro off right.
    Genius’s I tell ya.

Oh and I know from being a beta tester for microsoft, this new version of windows blows everything away its pretty amazing. Esspecially for GAMERS.

Windows + Metro UI = Faildogs, Hands Down.

  • Litoria

I think MS would have to change to make Windows 8 successful. Same UI across form factors can never be optimized.

MS chose the tablet form factor as the starting point, but…
    - For desktop, Metro will not cut it.
    - For tablets, it’s going to be too expensive. Noone will buy a Windows 8 tablet for at least twice the prize of an android tablet with the same hardware.

I tried the consumer preview before. Even if it was on a tablet it would still be a dull and unintuitive experience. Trying to use it on a desktop was dismal. The gestures just aren’t as fast as clicking to get to the menu you need. I will be sticking with Windows 7 for a long while, although I’m sure the OS will mature further down the line.

I thought it already, but Microsoft tries to force people to use it. I won’t give a bad word about it if we can choose at the first start up to use metro or disable it, but that will  probably never happen. And one more thing being a tester for Microsoft doesn’t mean that you can talk to people like that. Remember everybody can test it out… And WoW isn’t a real game :P

Tried it, hate it. Staying with Windows 7. Just garbage.

Too many negative comments here - totally uncalled for and embarrassing.

You ought to know then that the people that are going to dislike Metro the most are the people that won’t know how to disable it.

  • DwightDiercks

We are quite proud of the work that we do with Microsoft to support the Windows ecosystem. Combined with our new line of GeForce GPUs, you’ll be impressed with an NVIDIA-powered gaming experience on Windows 8.

  • DwightDiercks

    Thanks for your support, Tavros!

  • DougJnr

Tell us how to turn Metro off wise guy!

No response….oh I see….because you can NOT turn Metro off…genius!

Dwight, i find the graphics stack in windows 8 is quite good, i have tested it with nvidia, amd and intel hardware, pretty amazing stuff.  recently they made a huge change in the low level code that deal with the kernel and cpu detection that i find a bit suprising from having played with open source os’s and other products and learned about basic O/S design.  I think ms should now have a seperate installation package tweak, there should be at least two different packages for the kernel and related components compiled with and without the NX / XD emulation layer enabled.  as they used to with PAE, the changes are that significant from looking at it through an ICE.  One of the problems, is that bios designers have the capability of hiding instruction sets from a o/s or improper bios implementtion, sheesh a known feature of the x86 instruction set for many years.

I also forgot to mention that for someone like myself that has issues with operating a mouse due to cerebral palsy and non specific learning disorder, the keyboard shortcuts and the metro interface in windows 8 have been a total godsend.  The old start menu interface was crap.  I am able to hit the win key and easily navigate with just a couple strokes and the arrow keys to get to any program i want even expand the program list and run them as administrator or pin them to the taskbar without much effort.  Thank you and the other testers like yourself helping with designing the product.  The only gripe i have is the cpu detection code, i am aware that alot has to be done on the security front but alot of us like myself are unable to buy new pc’s every two years nor the technical knowledge to figure this out.

  • Christopher Fisher

What is your thoughts on packaging a different kernel executive for non nx and nx capable boxes?  I have pretty much made that conclusion that is how microsoft should go about this.  I would be interested in testing this and also i have some ideas on how to make this far more finely grained.

Oh I am sorry, I rarely respond to trolls. But hell I can’t help my self here.

There now don’t you feel like a genius.
