Some company holiday parties result in hangovers. Our celebration might cause a few callouses.
San Jose city leaders presented commendations to NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang Friday as NVIDIANs dug trenches, assembled greenhouses, erected fences, painted murals, and tackled other projects to help Veggielution, an urban community farm, as part of NVIDIA’s Project Inspire.
Five hundred NVIDIANs wearing green and black t-shirts muddied their shoes helping out at the Emma Prusch Farm Park as ducks and chickens scampered underfoot. Another 1,000 of our colleagues will join the project Saturday.
Clad in black work boots and blue jeans, Jen-Hsun said it has always been NVIDIA’s vision to harness the potential of its people to make a difference.
“People who are healthy grow up to be successful people, and this is a great way to teach people how to eat healthy, and live healthy,” Jen-Hsun said.

San Jose Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen presented a commendation honoring NVIDIA for Project Inspire on behalf of the city of San Jose.
Councilman Xavier Campos offered a separate commendation on behalf of the low-income community in East San Jose he represents.
“Growing up on the East side of San Jose, sometimes we felt like we were forgotten,” Campos said as NVIDIA employees wielding hammers and saws erected a structure a few yards away. “But we were not forgotten by NVIDIA.”
Project Inspire is an annual tradition at NVIDIA. Rather than throwing a holiday party, our employees take time to make a contribution to local causes.
This year we chose to work with Veggielution, a non-profit founded by a pair of students at nearby San Jose State University. Veggielution is dedicated to building a sustainable food system in East San Jose.
“Food has become really a crisis in our society,” Veggielution co-founder and executive director Amie Frisch told the assembled volunteers Friday morning. “It’s our family, it’s our community, and yet it’s making us sick.”
