i jut max all my settings then slowly alter everything back till its stable FPS…. if its something like crysis 3 i just start on low then work it up

I tried this when it initially came out and it was an absolute failure. I’m able to get a steady 50+ fps in Battlefield 3 at 1920×1200 with EVERYTHING set FULL BLAST (Core i8-920 @ 3.6 MHz/12GB RAM/GTX 670 2GB) and GFE recommended setting almost everything to the lowest setting. It also wanted me to dial things back in Crysis 2 when it runs a solid 60 fps maxed out. I posted it on the forum, but the last I looked when it was first updated, nothing had changed.

The best way to set things (if you have a beefy rig) is to max all sliders and then start rolling back if it’s too slow. Usually cutting back anti-aliasing is enough. The Witcher 2 chugged at ~20 fps until I switched off ultra-rendering and then it was solid 60 fps.

Good technique. But remember, this is still just a beta. It’s not done until we get a lot more feedback — like yours — over the coming months.

When this is perfected, it will save a lot of time dicking around with settings. Good stuff

There are some games like Crysis 2 that don’t look very good unless you have a custom cfg.  This might help, but the only use I really get out of this is the notifications for new drivers.  I think I read that there isn’t any SLI support yet, so I’ll just have to wait.  I will admit that I can see this being useful as I won’t have to decide whether it’s shadow quality, ambient occlusion, etc. that’s causing low FPS.

Very cool!  While this won’t ever be a perfect substitute for those who like to tinker…for the majority of gamers, this will help them crank the settings to perfection!

    Good thought.
