Will we have the ability to use a mouse and keyboard?  Even more importantly is there any plans to enable this in software so we can stream games from our desktop PC to our laptops over wifi?  Shield is a neat concept but i’d guess most PC gamers would rather have access to a keyboard and mouse then be downgraded to a controller. I’d happily cough up for a new 600 series video card if it enabled streaming to my laptop.

Being able to play full PC games ..on a handheld…is useless? Its not like a watered down version of the full game….its the actual full game.

Think about PS Vita games, 3DS games….now think about their console counterparts. With this….no need to buy a separate game for the handheld… Right now I have 2 separate games for my PS3 and Vita…Little Big Planet and Uncharted.

The biggest thing is playing games out the house. Can it be done, with a good experience?

Project SHIELD will be compatible with all Android games that support game controller inputs. Hope that helps answer your question!

For PC to SHIELD game streaming, currently you will need to be within the same Wi-Fi network as your PC.

  • rritambhar

how about the game keeps running on pc anonymously so that someone can still work on the pc while someone enjoys the game remotely ??? 2x the work !!! :)

    I second that :(

  • jonathon puckett

well you don’t need to play games
    you don’t need the internet
this is just something people will want and with that….

android games are not boring you are just not looking hard enough there are actually a lot of great games just in your opinion they might be bland

Will it be able to stream MMOs like world of warcraft?

  • Jonathan Dubose

The better question is, can I do it from my Xperia Play??? Streaming video shouldn’t be too hard, and I already have the gamepad

Will, when you say Wifi only within the home, then I assume the bottleneck outside the home is the connection bandwidth. What kind of broadband speed would be needed to make this work out of the house? I can’t imagine that it has to make use all of max wifi transfer speed as it would then be impeded by someone say browsing internet on another device.

i honestly think this is cool because (and im 14) if your parents tell you to get off, just turn off the monitor or put your computer to sleep( however SHEILD is compatible) then just play with headphones on in your room. i think its a cool idea!!

  • http://blogs.nvidia.com/ Will Park

That’s a good use case, Ryan. Just keep in mind that your PC must be powered on to stream games to Project SHIELD.

We work with developers closely to help drive innovation in the mobile gaming space. Always good to see our fans appreciating what we’re doing for Android games :)

Is that for security purposes or actual hardware/software limitations?

Really, I think the best thing Nvidia can do here is make it quite open. Don’t lock it down. If you look at what is possible with something like the Raspberry Pi, people are finding uses for it that are far, far beyond the realms of imagination that the creators ever thought of. If you look at Skyrim and Oblivion and Morrowind, the mods created for the game are just oozing with huge creative potential that isn’t in the console versions of the game because Bethesda are only so many people. If Nvidia allows people to have a proper play about with the device I’m sure we can see it perform some truly extraordinary actions. If it’s locked down like an Iphone then it’s potential is seriously hampered.

The game has to be compatible with a game controller.

  • http://blogs.nvidia.com/ Will Park

You won’t be able to stream your PC games to your Xperia Play using our technology.

  • http://blogs.nvidia.com/ Will Park

We’re not ready to talk about the specific broadband speeds required outside the home. For now we’re only talking about using your home WiFi connection. Hope this helps! :)

You’re totally right, Chris. Project SHIELD is an open platform. We work with developers all the time and want to continue that tradition with Project SHIELD.

Suck to have an AMD GPU.
    NVIDIA FOREVER.
I’ve loved your cards forever. In fact my first Nvidia card was a Geforce2 Ultra.
    Keep up the good work.

Is there any front camera in Shield?

Hey Will, I subscribe to your youtube videos. I have a question. Is there plans to allow gaming beyond my home network?
