    Crashing all the time… GTX 560 Ti W7 64bit

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

major choppy stuttering problem in BF3 reported by multiple people on the Nvidia forums here with multiple chipsets from GTX260s to 560s.

    Please fix this.
No stuttter/chop with 280 drivers, but occasional game freezes in BF3

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355312978 Bill Glendening

I had to reinstall 275.33 because 285.62 kept on crashing after 24 hours of using it. I have the EVGA 560sc.

  • Chris Borden

hmm… must explain the painfully slow download…

  • Jay Leffue

Installed the latest driver over the prior beta release.  GTX 580 3GB on Win 7 64bit.  Since I did I can barely get a map to load in BF3.  Goes to loading screen, but as soon as what would be the actual map loads (or shortly thereafter) Everything freezes and I have to ctrl alt delete to get it to stop with an error “Battlefield 3 has stopped working”.

It ran for about 2 hours before I saw this issue the first time, since then its constant.  Will go back to beta driver to see if that helps as game is UNPLAYABLE for me since I got latest driver.

  • http://www.facebook.com/troy.edin Troy Edin

I switched to nvidia partly to escape AMD’s poor driver architecture.  However, after seeing the performance of this driver from nvidia, I am wishing I had just stayed with the xbox 360.  True pc graphics are much better, but since I switched, I have spent more time messing with settings and drivers installs-uninstalls, instead of actually using the graphics cards for what I wanted originally, to play games.  AMD and Nvidia, fix your stuff, take your time and release stuff that works with the respected hardware.  I also read stuff about 560 tis possibly being bad design… i really hope not.  it wasn’t cheap to switch to nvidia for me.  Anyways, back to point.  I installed my twin frozer 4 days ago, and ever since, I have been experiencing issues with BF3, mostly in multiplayer.  It is virtually unplayable with Nvidia.  using 285.62 whql drivers, not impressed with these.  They also crash RAGE after 10 min… every time I play it.  Steam is crashing as well, never experienced this ever with AMD,  I guess the grass is always greener until you reach the other side, I should have just gotten the 6950 instead of the 560 ti. My HF 5770 card from AMD was much slower, however, it actually *worked* with every game I played, even RAGE, and it wasn’t so slow or glitchy that the game was unplayable.  Guess, I just hope these drivers are improved, have noticed many people like myself with unplayable games since the new 285 whql release.

GTX 560 Ti W7 64bit – All I want is to play Battlefield 3 please. Crashes to Desktop after a minute or 2 max. Reverting to 275.33 this evening to see what happens. Even started having artefacts outside of BF3 now after over-clocking for SOME stability during the BF3 Beta… I’m so afraid that BF3 helped me burn out my 560 ti .. I hope not.

HUGE PROBLEM WITH NVIDIA 560M. Drivers instantly improved the performance of the game, very noticeably. Then, the next day, IMPOSSIBLE to play. Frame rate has dropped to probably less than 10 without changing any video settings, and my gun just disappears from view.

I tried to change all settings from MEDIUM where the card performed awesome to LOW, and FPS performance is still horrible. Today I gave it another try and it was the same horrible performance, except that this time massive amounts of textures did not load.

I’m gonna try to find a way to revert the drivers.

Can’t believe I’m wasting so much time on the functionality of a game that I actually paid full retail price for!

  • http://www.facebook.com/dlooney1991 Daniel Looney

Running a 260M, never had any problems with high graphics games (crysis, crysis2, older BF games) and now i can hardly play. Other players have to be in my view for more than .5 seconds or they wont show up, and it stutters like all getout….

Not the beta for BF3 beta, but the next BF3 release driver and this weeks WHQL release of 285.62 makes my Media Center TV go black! (win7 64)

  • http://twitter.com/nitramkire Expediente E(rik)

On the other side: not one single graphics problem with BF3. My GTX470 rocks at Ultra presets!

How stupid is this… promoting BF3 during the install of ur new drivers 258.62 and it seriously messes up the game…!!
What are u guys trying to do? Make us buy a new card for this graphic-intensive game (the played very well in beta with older drivers)??

    I run a Q8300 with 4GB on Win7 Prof with an Nvidia GTS250, 1GB

Since the new drivers i see random “blackscreens” in BF:bad company 2 to. Sometimes for a sec, sometimes for 10 seconds.

In BF3 i have to turn the screen resolution to 1600×1024 with all settings on low. Even then i had to put the anisotropic filter to 1x to get some normal in-game movement. And no AA at all :(
(imagine what these settings do to my game-experience).

A lot of people (about 13 mil.) bought the game this week. When will u provide a sollution?

Oh yeah, IF this was a (really dumb) effort to make us gamers buy new cards… im NOT going for a new Nvidia card and if i read the fora correctly, at LOT of other people will go for “some other brand” also.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

ATI had this same problem, but they’ve fixed it already.

  • Anonymous

    Hi Jared and all,
Yes, we have identified a shadow corruption bug and a stuttering bug with 285.62 on some previous generation cards. We are fixing these now and expect to have a new driver release soon. We also have a fix for the Media Center bug mentioned in these comments.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

Is the game crashing problem something to do with the video cards or is that a problem with the game itself (EA/DICE’s problem)?

  • Anonymous

Hi Lennart, we are working on getting out a fix asap.

  • Anonymous

Right now we aren’t able to reproduce BF3 crashes due to our cards. We are working on very system specific web browser TDRs reported by some customers. These TDRs are not reproducable at NVIDIA across a wide range of cards/systems but we are working directly with some customers now. If your crash sounds like it is something different, it would be great if you could provide more detail on our moderated forums: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=213670.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

But you have seen multiple customers complaining about the crashing though, yes? game crashes at random. anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes of gameplay before it just freezes. The last sound will play out and then the game goes silent… hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL gets a white screen, but I’ve never seen it say the program is ‘not responding’
GPU temps are well within spec (sometimes even under 60°C)
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=213816
does it have to do with the browser TDRs (seeing as Battlefield 3 requires STUPID WEB BASED BROWSING TO WORK!?!?!?). I’m using the game with Chrome.

  • Anonymous

Yes that issue sounds like it could be related to the browser TDRs. Some people have reported that setting Power Management Mode in Manage 3D Settings to ‘Prefer Maximum Performance’ has helped. You can apply the change globally or just for the browser. The TDRs appear to be very system specific. I’m using Chrome myself while playing BF3 and have no issues. We’ll let you know as soon as we learn more from the customers we are working directly with to troubleshoot.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

How does one identify a TDR anyway? the browser never crashes on me. I set Prefer Maximum Performance for the game, but not Chrome. I’ll try that. Any suggestions on perhaps using Internet Explorer 9 as the hub for BattleLog (which I hate…)
Thanks for your responses. I’d love to start playing this game that I just spent $50on… on my PC that cost about $6000…

  • Anonymous

If you are on the desktop, the display will go black for a couple seconds and then Windows will recover and display a pop-up saying that it has recovered. You could try IE9 but I’m not sure that would make a difference. It would be helpful to see your full system specs on the forum thread. Would you be able to respond there? http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=213816

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

Yes, I’m Chapel on there. What do you need for full system specs?

  • Anonymous

As much detail as you can. CPU/motherboard/memory/gpu (brand/vendor/vbios/driver/clocks), customizations like OC/3D settings, in-game settings, and then any other details that could narrow the issue down like game location, other sw open, etc.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

Ok, thanks. It’s a Dell Precision T5500, so it’s not a custom box. I would assume the CPU, Motherboard and memory are all standard reference level stuff. The only add-in is the EVGA GTX285 video card and I’ve tried the 275, 280 and 285 drivers, all with crashes.
I think the card is factory overclocked. What would the standard reference speeds be on a GTX285 so I can set those.

  • Anonymous

Hi Jared, the T5500 says is can handle a 150W card and you have a 200W card. Did you upgrade the power supply? Let’s take this thread to the forum.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

It’s 150W on each cable though, and this has 2 power cables going into it for 300W total. At least that’s what Dell informed me.
They said I could use one 300W PCIe card or 2 150W cards.
The included power supply is 875W.
Should I start a new thread or reply in the existing?

Go ahead and start a new thread. I’ll ask Manuel to jump in.

I also have all the time crashes to desktop with my Asus Engtx580 DCII,I just can play the game for a few secs and then it crashes to desktop.I’ve tried everything from installing latest drivers to rolling them back to old ones, changing different settings … but still no hope. Some ppl say around that “underclocking” gpu and lowering some stats may make it work but it didn’t change a thing for me. I’ve got an I7 2600k running at 4.3 ghz with 8gb of Gskills 1600mhz DDR3 and the previously mention Gcard!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MIZ6ERXR5OQTGO63F7VNV4HYSY THE VOICE OF AMERICA

    Just sharing some more info

Major stuttering with 285.62 drivers, had to roll back to 280.26 to fix it.
Game still crashes 1-20mins (sound goes on, image frozen)
Maximum Performance set in both bf3 app, google chrome, firefox, and globally.

Freezing occurs on all graphic qualities, even on dead low

    Specs:
vanilla evga gtx280 (max temp in BF3 around 60-65C)
intel core 2 quad extreme edition 3.2ghz (runs at 45C max)
    8gb ddr3 1333mhz
    EVGA 790i Ultra SLI
    Antec 850watt PSU

Hi Chris, thx for the reply, great to hear u guy are working on it :)
I know i can’t play on 1900×1600 res. but i sooooo don’t wanna buy another G.card alrdy. To hear my “new generation” card was a pimped 9000-serie was crappy enough alrdy.

Tarek & others, we have recently made progress on fixing this issue. We will release a driver update as soon as we can.

  • http://twitter.com/pettiblay Thomas Pettigrew

I’ve been having a very annoying problem and I can’t seem to find answers anywhere, so maybe this’ll do it.

I currently have 2 GTX 560 Ti in SLi. I never get random crashes or anything when I play on High with just 1 card, but as soon as I enable SLi, whatever setting I choose I get like 5-10FPS, weird shades, blue-ish tint and just an overall horrible experience. I tried reverting back to beta graphics but that didn’t help. My screen seems to flicker at a rate of about 15-30Hz (note that it’s not textures or anything that flickers, it’s the whole screen). Does anybody else have this issue or do you guys have a fix in the works? I bought an extra 560 just to run BF3 at Ultra and now it’s the only game which doesn’t work well with it.

  • Anonymous

Hi Thomas, do you already have a thread on the forum about this? If so, please point me to it and our team will look at it. Otherwise please add your information there including additional data like card vendor and experience in other games with SLI. This doesn’t sound like a known issue but we will need more data on the forum to troubleshoot.

gtx 260 here. Also getting major stuttering with 285 driver

  • Anonymous

@Chris_Daniel:disqus : Thanks for keeping in touch with users on such a direct basis. It is good to know that you guys are actually working on the posted problems. I do have a manufacture-OCed 560 Ti Golden Sample from Gainward. I can play BF3 only a few minutes at a time before the driver is reset which of course crashes the game and sends me BTD.Is there any update or even time frame when to expect a new driver or some sort of hotfix? BF3 is pretty useless for many people at the moment.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andygagn Andy Gagnon

    Hi Chris,

I got artifacting problems in big maps while playing BF3. Random artfacts happen in Caspian Border and Kharg Island. I can play on all other maps without problems. The card is brand new and I have no problem playing any other game (even Witcher 2 maxed out). It gets really frustrating because the game becomes unplayable at this point. I read that other players with the GTX560 series and great system had the same problem. Temp stays around 70C in game.

This is an example of how it looks when it happens:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAs3g0u8C3g

    Here’s my system:
    Intel i7 920
    6GB DDR3
    1TB WD Caviar Black
    ASUS ENGTX560 DC 1024MB
    Rocketfish 550W PS
    (Everything at stock clock)

EDIT: I bought the card especially for this game, please help!

  • Anonymous

We have a driver update scheduled for later this week. It should address this issue as well as the reports of stuttering on last generation cards.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

YAY! Now we just need EA to fix the game’s crashing :)

  • Anonymous

How about addressing the display driver crash bug? Is this on the agenda? A number of people – especially with OCed 560 Ti cards cannot play the game at all.

  • Anonymous

We will speak to Gainward about this issue. It appears limited to specific cards from a couple of board vendors. One vendor has already released a vbios update that fixes their issue. From what we know at the moment, this is not driver related.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andygagn Andy Gagnon

Wow! That was a very fast reply! I appreciate much!

  • Anonymous

Yes. Gigabyte released a BIOS update. Interesting. Do you have any idea what to change? Is there anything we could do? I talked to a number of Gainward support staff members. They told me that – guess who – Nvidia is to blame and that they can’t help me.

  • Anonymous

They raised the core voltage. We’ll talk to your vendor.

  • Tom Rian

I have a ASUS 560 Ti DCII OC TOP (900Mhz OC from factory) and I am experiencing the exact same thing. Do you know when ASUS will release a BIOS update? The only BIOS they have atm is one for the 560 non-Ti. Getting really annoyed. Although you can help with the issue to underclock it to 830mhz and 4000 mhz on the RAM using the ASUS SmartDoctor.

    Hi,

I have two ASUS GTX 560 TI DCII TOP graphics cards in SLI configuration. (They are default factory overclocked to 900mhz)
When I play battlefield 3, I don’t have any problem as soon as I do not enable the Anti Aliasing option. Whenever I enable AA I started to see huge fps drops and if I enable the 4xAA the drops are much worse and eventually the game crashes.

I did a test about this. (I have 8GB ram in total) Before I start the BF3 my total RAM utilization was 1.8GB. After I started the game it was around 4.3 GB , then I enabled 4xAA and I started to watch the RAM utilization. The RAM utilization constantly grew and when it reached somewhere around 5.8GB the game crashed. 5.8-1.8 means bf3 was utilizing ~4GB ram at the moment of crash.

Do you think this can be a memory leak ?

  • Jean-Rene Vidaud

I had to reinstall 275.33 because 285.62 kept on crashing – Geforce GTX 460 – Windows 7 64 Bits (crash and recover)

  • Anonymous

Thanks for the observation. BF3 can consume a lot of memory at high settings and with large maps as you are seeing but we have not seen evidence of a memory leak. I’d be interested to hear if you have issues at reference GTX 560 clocks. Also try our new 285.79 driver.

  • Anonymous

All, please check out our new GeForce 285.79 driver: http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/39239

  • http://www.facebook.com/chapel976 Jared Robinson

I’ll give that a try tonight or tomorrow.
Still waiting on EA to patch the freezing.

  • oversoul n

I just wanna mention sth important to all of the ppl who’ve got Asus Geforce Gcards installed on their machines. If u have freezes & crashes to desktop, the only solution is to uninstall GamerOSD & SmartDoctor as it seems Asus softwares are the source of crashes in this game and some other games. I was unable to play the game & had all the time crashes to desktop & none of the drivers could solve my issue, though uninstalling Asus GamerOsd & SmartDoctor did the trick. Game is running smooth now with latest driver.
    Cheers,

  • Anonymous

Well thanks. But that driver sadly does not solve the crash bug many people encounter with OC 560 Ti cards.

  • Anonymous

    Hi,
Any news from gainward about 560Ti Golden Sample?

  • Anonymous

I raised the core voltage to 1050 mV and lowered the clock to 820 Mhz standard. Played a considerable time BF3 without a crash. I also use now a custom fan speed curve to ensure temperatures below 62°C. I don’t know though which of these factors contributed most. MIght be either one of them or all.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ahmedjq Ahmed Qureshi

The issue is still not fixed. I have a 560 ti and experience the artifacting. If you check the Nvidia forums, other people are still reporting it as an issue on their 560 Ti cards

    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=214001&st=40

  • Anonymous

From what we can tell so far this isn’t a driver bug. We continue to investigate with our partners and other issues with the developer.

  • Anonymous

We expect the game to patch this issue in the future. Our next driver release (next week) will have further workarounds for the issue but the complete fix will come from the game.

  • Anonymous

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Anonymous

I did not only mean the BF3 crashes but also the display driver reset one can encounter occasionally with Firefox for example. That sure sounds like a driver bug. Especially since a driver upgrade led to it (never had that before!).

  • Anonymous

Yes we are still actively investigating solutions for the browser TDRs.

  • Anonymous

That is good news, because these are quite a nuisance.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ahmedjq Ahmed Qureshi

Thanks for letting us know. Has DICE given any indication on when the issue will be addressed completely? The glitch is really severe and makes games unplayable at times.

  • http://twitter.com/AhmedJQ Ahmed Qureshi

DICE claims to have fixed the issue with their latest patch, but I’ve tested it and it still hasn’t been fixed . In fact, in some ways, it’s gotten even worse for me.

I’m hoping NVIDIA has a possible solution in the works, as this glitch is kind of severe.

  • Anonymous

Same here. Patch notes say something about a black screen on some configs. But the crash bug is still there. Crashes every 60 seconds unless I underclock and “overvolt” my 560 Ti Golden Sample. If I do that it is very stable.

  • Alexis Rojas

Hi, Guys i hope Nvidia do something with this soon ,  I am also having the  crash problem  but i was able to workaround a solution , it seems that the problem is with the game itself ( btw i hate that “#$% origin) try this :
      -go to device manager
      -select your realtek audio
      -disable it

note: what i do to hear is that i use the audio from the videocard (hdmi GTX460), also you can try using a USB headset …trust me this works ( i have played more than 8 hours non-stop and without a crash since i tried this)…also i noticed that the ATI people are not having the problem anymore so maybe i will buy an ATI video card since i dont think DICE will fix this.

  • Alexis Rojas

I think they wont, something similar happened in BF2 ( other cards) and EA never fixed it ( as long as you buy the game they wont care).

hi,my battlefeild 3 just crashes within a duration of 15 minuets , game hangs and stops responding and finally i have to ctrl+alt+del to get out.Got the latest drivers , bios updates , extra fans so no over heating, psu big enough to support anything i put in but still all i get is crash.I have never overclocked my card a nvidia gtx 560 ti as i never felt need for it so it stays at factory set 822 mhz.I have tried it on win 7 32 bit and 64 bit but still the same with my zotac gtx 560 ti.I am just sick of it , first it was crysis 2, call of juarez bound in bood etc now battlefeild 3, it is all like i will have to go all over again posting and trying to find a solution.First i thoust that my card was faulty (3 months back) so got it replaced 2 times but this 285.62 kind of solved my issue but not completely .IT is 3rd time this is happening to me so finally i am gonnga ask for my full refund or else i will move to consumer court as i never paid for this kind of product .I was far more satisfied with my low spec nvidia as i never had to write so much to tech support etc .
My system specs are: Graphics: zotac NVidia gtx 560 ti Processor: Intel i5-2400 @ 3.10 GHz, gigabyte motherboard Memory: DDR 3 RAM 4 GB OS: Windows 7 SP1 32 bit. PSU: Cooler master 750 watts NVidia Driver: 285.62 version.

Chris i am so fed up of having issues with my gtx 560 ti , i got it replaced 2 times thinking it was a faulty one but later i found out that it not just with me but with a lot of people with the same product and same issue.
The issues i faced went to negligiable level afet this latest driver update but now while NVIDIA so proudly promots its name with battlefeild 3 me with a whole lot of bunch suffer this glitch .
It is like no lag no weird graphics  just plain old crash to desktop .

  • Anonymous

What quality setting at you playing at? We’ll look you up on the NVIDIA forum.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hiteshy Hitesh Yadav

Chris the issue i am facing is a lot similar to what you discussed with “fatBaron” only difference being that my vendor is ZOTAC which still has no clue about it (no bios updates etc).

  • Anonymous

Which by the way is still not solved. Manual underclocking and overvolting is the only way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/hiteshy Hitesh Yadav

i play in setting set to ULTRA , with that the screen resollution set to 1440*900(default).So far no lag or low FPS , it just the crash to desktop.

  • Anonymous

Does the issue also occur at High settings? Ultra is known to hit game crashes on your level of graphics card. This is not specific to NVIDIA cards. We have reported this to the game developer.
