The doors don’t open until tomorrow at Computex in Taipei, but ASUS has just taken the wraps off its latest tablet: the Tegra 4-powered ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity.

Johnny Shih
Jonney Shih: the ASUS chairman knows how to draw a crowd.

The device was dramatically unveiled by ASUS Chairman and master showman Jonney Shih, at the company’s annual splashy press meet up. The event, themed “We Transform,” riveted some 600 reporters, partners and other attendees, who were packed into a ballroom set with less than half that number of white, tightly draped chairs.

The first in a stream of impressively innovative products announced by the Taiwan-based maker at the event, the new Transformer Pad is among the world’s very first devices to feature the world’s fastest mobile processor, Tegra 4.

“The new ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity, with its incredible features, is indeed the best possible combination of emotion and function,” Shih told the crowd.

Powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, 2nd generation battery-saver core and 72 custom GeForce GPU cores, Tegra 4 delivers best-in-class gaming and entertainment. Thanks to Tegra 4, Transformer Infinity Pad customers will benefit from faster web browsing, including support for WebGL and HTML5; smooth HD video playback with 4K video support; and outstanding battery life.

Test test test
Tegra 4 tops the Transformer Pad Infinity’s list of next-gen specs.

As for the specs: the Transformer Pad Infinity features a 10.1-inch LED backlit, 178-degree wide view angle and an IPS+ display to deliver stunning visuals in 2560 x 1600 WQXGA. Onboard SonicMaster-enhanced audio completes the multimedia experience, so from the latest Tegra-optimized games to superb HD movie playback, this tablet has you covered.

Worried about the effects of all that gaming on your battery? Don’t. The redesigned 254mm QWERTY chiclet keyboard dock now features a multi-touch pad, USB 3.0 an SDXC card reader and built-in batteries that extend this tablet’salready impressive battery life even further.

I really wish it had front facing speakers. Other than that it looks great.

  • Bhargav240

Feels great… But I would really love to know the price.

  • incendious

Yeah, but how well does it run Crysis? :]

I’m very excited about tegra 4. I’m using my tegra 2 galaxy tab P7500 right now. I hope the next samsung tab can use tegra 4 or at least integrate the tegra’s 72 core gpu with their exynos octa. That would be a perfect tablet. I just don’t like the backward-facing speaker of the asus transformer.

  • Brian_Caulfield

We’ll leave it up to ASUS to put a price  on their product. Stay tuned!

  • Brian_Caulfield

    That question never gets old.

  • Martin Ausilio

I am ok with the missing price, but release date at least ??

  • Brian_Caulfield

    Stay tuned!

    which OS?

  • Stephen Wallis

It won’t run Crysis. Crysis was coded for an x86 processor, not ARM.

so when can we get it

  • disqust101

Got my old Prime that needs replacement.  Can’t wait for this new version of the Infinity.

  • Andre Prasetya

when will it released ? I have not seen any Tegra 4 devices on market, while Qualcomm 800 starts rolling.

  • BtotheT

The toshiba excite por/write is available already.

  • Stopper44

Get rid of the speakers and put in something more useful. People use ear buds or headphones.
    iPad 4 has 128Gb SSD
    or
    How about 4Gb of ram?

  • TheCubicGamer

Hopefully its released before summer ends, would love to get it before school starts again :P
Rumors have it that without the keyboard, it will go for 399.99$. That’s an incredible price for something so powerful and nice looking. If I’m correct, its outmatches SHIELD with it’s specs. For the release I haven’t heard anything more than Q3 2013.

  • Leo Mignonneau

    I´ll definitely buy this tablet
but will it really be released in Q3 of 2013 ? Or more something like Q1 of 2014
