ChrisRay's GeForce GTX 260/280 Review
Comments

You can use two cards (same model and series) from two different manufactures. but it's recommended to use two cards from the same brand, because some brands like EVGA or ASUS likes to overclock their cards, and it's more optimal to have the cards running at the exact same settings in SLI mode.

Ultimately you need 2 graphics carsds that are identicle in every aspect for sli.
I recommend getting 2 8600GT's OCd with zalman fans, they are about $130 each now days and I have 2 of those and they work wonders for what I play, I plan to upgrade to 9600's which are dulled down versions of the 8 series, but for the games I play that aren't that visualy intensive as say.. crysis, or... Cod4.
And with these cards go for a dual core instead of quad, unless you can afford an extreme, but even then if you could afford one of those you may aswell buy 2x 280's XD
Hope this helped a bit, Ray =]
