FASTER PHOTO SORTING THANKS TO CUDA

When I first heard about CyberLink’s MediaShow 5 photo management software, I was really excited – and not just because it uses NVIDIA CUDA technology. For the first time on the PC there’s a quick and easy way to organize and search all of your photos based on who’s in them.

Cameras are everywhere in our house. We have a Canon Rebel digital SLR we use at the kids’ events and games. We have a smaller Sony pocket camera for casual use. My oldest son has a camera of his own. And we all have cameras on our phones.

At this point, we’re storing gigabytes on gigabytes of pictures. Sorting them in any kind of useful or meaningful way is an overwhelming proposition. But not sorting them means we can’t find the pictures we want.

MediaShow searches and organizes your photo collection using a sophisticated face-recognition algorithm. This weekend I tackled the daunting task of organizing my family’s photos with renewed vigor. I found a majority of the photos on our hard drive for both kids, my wife, and myself, and I sorted them into folders for further digging. The time it would have taken me to do this without MediaShow is too silly to even consider. With MediaShow it took about 10 minutes to tag about 1000 photos. I was able to do it while watching the Dallas Cowboys beat up on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and I still had time to check on my fantasy team.
