For my fellow digital artists around the world, I have great news: We’ve partnered up with our friends at CGSociety for the fifth NVArt competition! The theme this year is Images of Future Transport: In The Style of Syd Mead. Submissions for NVArt open today and will close on June 30th. For detailed information on how to enter, go here.

For those who don’t know him, Syd Mead is a living legend to industrial designers, graphic artists and 3D designers alike—not to mention one of my personal heroes. You can imagine how thrilled we are to have him as an NVArt judge. His prolific designs have graced the silver screen in movies such as Bladerunner, TRON, Aliens, 2010, and more. His work has inspired many of the futuristic films movie-watchers know and love.

Sitting alongside Syd on the judges panel will be:

  • Adam Savage and Jaime Hyneman, hosts of the MythBusters TV Show
  • Kevin Kelly, co-founder of Wired Magazine
  • Mark Frauenfelder, founder of BoingBoing
  • Brian Gernard, creative director of Kerner
  • Lorne Lanning, co-founder of Oddworld Inhabitants
  • Mark Snoswell, president of the CGSociety
  • David Wright (hey, that’s me), creative director at NVIDIA

We owe much of NVIDIA’s success to the talents of digital designers in this fascinating and ever-changing industry. The NVArt competition is just one way for us to say “thank you” and to celebrate the achievements of this amazing community. We’re really pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate again with our friends at CGSociety on NVArt.

First prize in the NVArt competition is $10,000 cash, plus two NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 4GB – 240 CUDA Processors (our latest model). The top three finalists will also receive travel to SIGGRAPH where we we’ll announce the winners. You will even get to meet Syd himself!

Now is your chance to design a new generation of futuristic vehicles and give Syd a run for his money. So let your imagination reign, bring all of your passion to it, and let the competition begin! It’s a great opportunity to show off what you can do!
