NVIDIA today received its fifth consecutive Best Choice Award at Computex, as the SHIELD open-platform gaming device won the top Golden Award in the smart handheld category, as well as a special Media’s Choice Award, voted on by editorial staff of local publications.
At the opening ceremonies of the Computex trade show in central Taipei, Taiwan President Dr. Ying-Jeou Ma gave the award to NVIDIA’s Scott Herkelman, general manager of the GeForce GPU business. More than 400 products from 170 manufacturers competed for the prizes, which were awarded in nine separate categories.
The event was attended by a crowd of more than 300, including many of the major figures in Taiwan’s booming IT industry, government officials and ambassadors.
The judges praised NVIDIA SHIELD as a highly differentiated handheld game console for open platforms that “effectively integrated videos, media and games with smart power consumption” and sporting a design that is “very eye-catching and highly fashionable.”
SHIELD, which begins shipping later this month, taps into the planet’s largest ecosystem of games – spanning NVIDIA TegraZone, Google Play and Steam. Gamers can play Android games with top-quality mobility, control and performance. Movies, music and apps can be enjoyed via a Google Play account. And PC games can be streamed from a PC powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPUs.
