SEGA and Warner Bros. Join NVIDIA SHIELD on GeForce NOW

by Phil Eisler

Two more top game publishers will be streaming their titles on NVIDIA SHIELD with GeForce NOW, bringing the total number of PC games available to stream on our Android TV device to 100.

SEGA and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will add a combined nine hit titles to the GeForce NOW service in the coming weeks. NVIDIA announced the additions at the Game Developers Conference, in San Francisco. Square Enix added games to the service just last month.

GeForce NOW is the world’s most powerful game-streaming service. It features cloud access to GeForce GPUs and a click-to-play time of less than 30 seconds — 100x faster than waiting for traditional digital downloads. It’s the fastest, easiest way to play great video games, and GeForce NOW is only available on NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV — the fastest, Android-based media-streaming device for the living room.

SONIC the Hedgehog Spins onto SHIELD

Under the SEGA deal, four games from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will come to GeForce NOW. The Sonic series is one of the most popular platform franchises of all time. And families can enjoy it together on SHIELD with GeForce NOW’s multi-controller support for up to four players. Also coming from SEGA are the hit games Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Alpha Protocol.

“SEGA is delighted to bring
Sonic the Hedgehog to a new generation of players who can enjoy the series on GeForce NOW as easily as they’d watch a Netflix movie,” said John Clark, senior vice president of commercial publishing at SEGA Europe.

Mad Max and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Coming

Two fantastic open-world action-adventure games from Warner Bros. will soon be available in the GeForce NOW store: Mad Max and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Both are based on movie franchises and have won rave reviews. The popular children’s game LEGO Jurassic Park will also be added to the GeForce NOW store for purchase.

“Millennial gamers are increasingly turning to game-streaming services to instantly play their games and NVIDIA GeForce NOW is the early performance leader,” said Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.

I purchased the NVIDIA shield back in last November mostly as a replacement for my set top box. I was looking for a robust media player that could handle multiple formats. I have a gaming PC, so the game streaming service wasn’t the main appeal. Today this is becoming my main source of getting my gaming fix. The fact that I can plug in a pair of headphones to the controller and not bother anyone while playing and/or watching movies at night in my bed while my wife sleeps has been nothing short that a complete success…I can’t say that this will replace your console. If you’re an enthusiast than this might fall short. But if you’re like me, that have kids and a home and only have precious time to play for an hour or two at the most, this is by far the most convenient way to do it without requiring dedicated equipment.

Oh…forgot to add…the trial period ended for me in January, and so far the monthly cost has been easily justified by the fact that I’m playing games that run at a faster frame rate than my PC (my PC is 5 years old). And again…the convenience is worth it.

Could not agree more! It’s the first feature I mention to friends with kids!

I have a very good internet connection however the controller seems to lose connection with the geforce now server leaving the game unplayable and having to pull the power from the shield and back on as the controller will no longer connect to the session. Also been having problems with the back button (<) it hardly ever picks up my pressing of it. I have nvidia but have had zero response. Only let down at the moment in regards to games is there is no soccer games presently.. I hope this is added in future. I can never see fifa or pro evo adopting this devise as I dont feel the online games competitive games would be reliable. However I am still a fan and an early adopter I'm sure improvements and controller fixes will come.
