At E3, NVIDIA Takes You from the Federation’s Starship to Everest’s Hillary Steps in VR

From the bridge of Star Trek’s Aegis starship to the wind-blown peaks of Mt. Everest, VR will transport people far beyond the walls of the E3 2016 tradeshow in Los Angeles this week.

There’s no better place to take it all in than the NVIDIA E3 suite. It’s one of the only places attendees can play the new Star Trek VR game, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, coming from Ubisoft this year. Crews of four will take command of the U.S.S. Aegis to explore uncharted territory and boldly go where no one has gone before. If you’ve never experienced multiplayer VR before, this one is a mind blower.

We’re also taking explorers across icy crevasses to the top of the world’s tallest peak with Solfar’s EVEREST VR. The original Khumbu Icefalls chapter was so immersive, even some hardy reviewers refused to take a further step. The next chapter brings you to the perilous Hillary Steps, taking advantage of VRWorks Multi-res Shading and GameWorks Turbulence technologies to improve performance and immersion.

For a less daunting experience that’s just as fun, the interactive carnival of NVIDIA VR Funhouse awaits E3 attendees. It’s a showcase for NVIDIA VRWorks and GameWorks technologies — and how they let developers take immersion in VR to new heights. VR Funhouse demonstrates the sense of presence that can be achieved by fusing state-of-the-art graphics and accurate physics modeling in VR.

VRWorks: Moving VR Forward

VRWorks and NVIDIA’s Pascal architecture-based gaming GPUs infuse VR with a new level of presence. They bring physically realistic graphics, sound, touch and behavior to virtual worlds. These features are powered by Pascal’s Simultaneous Multi-Projection architecture, which is purpose-built for virtual reality.
