Meet an NVIDIA Cloud Security Architect Keeping AI Safe

by Haley Hirai

Laura Seletos has believed in NVIDIA since she was 13 years old.

An avid gamer, she pitched investing in NVIDIA to her parents before she was old enough to have her own brokerage account. Although they said no, decades later, the story has come full circle as Seletos now works at her dream company as a principal cloud security architect.

Seletos’ curiosity about security was piqued at Florida’s Stetson University, where she majored in computer information systems. She was selected to participate in a unique security class offered once every three years, where students perform a penetration test — a simulated exercise to find and exploit security vulnerabilities — on their own school. She enjoyed the challenge of finding security gaps, then recommending and designing solutions for how the university could fix them.

After initially working as an application developer, she decided to pursue a career in cybersecurity, fueled by her desire to learn, solve challenging problems and help others keep information safe. Her previous roles have spanned security engineer, pentester, administrator, technical account manager, global product manager and consultant for Fortune 500 companies and the U.S. government.

“I’m not afraid to veer from the traditional path, and feel comfortable advocating for opportunities that give me a chance to make an impact,” she said. “The diversity of my experience has helped me empathize with others whose positions I was once in and approach security challenges from a new perspective.”

As a principal cloud security architect at NVIDIA, Seletos and her team focus on securing AI in close partnership with NVIDIA’s developers and product teams. Together, they integrate security best practices into the foundation of NVIDIA’s products as early as possible in the development process.

With a unique perspective working with so many teams across the business, Seletos and her team are able to see recurring growing pains and address them with scalable solutions.

“Our teams are innovating so quickly, and we aim to run at the same pace as our developers,” she said. “Our goal is to enable innovation in the safest and most scalable way possible.”

Although she entered NVIDIA with expertise in cloud services, she’s now being cross-trained in AI and appreciates how NVIDIA’s open culture empowers her to learn from experts in various fields — whether it’s AI, machine learning, encryption or hardware. The accessibility of information at NVIDIA enables her to learn, innovate and easily partner with technical leaders across the company.

Some of Seletos’ proudest moments at NVIDIA include leading security for large-scale enterprise cloud and AI projects such as NVIDIA NIM microservices, the NVIDIA Agent Intelligence toolkit and NVIDIA Blueprints. She’s also helped unify internal cloud services and enjoys working across industries, including with the NVIDIA BioNeMo team to boost security for their impactful work in drug discovery and biopharma.

“My life’s work is solving challenges with cool people,” she said. “We’re surrounded by the experts in our fields, and it’s so rewarding to me to help enable products that are making our world a better place.”
