Many countries around the world are facing demographics challenges, with aging populations and shrinking workforces. Robots are expected to play a crucial role in assisting workforces in multiple uses and settings, including factories, healthcare, retail and more.
By 2030, 80% of humans will engage with smart robots on a daily basis, due to advancements in intelligence, social interactions and human augmentation capabilities, up from less than 10% today, according to research firm Gartner. This engagement will be seen across industries worldwide.
See the future of industrial robotics inside the exhibit halls of the International Robot Exhibition (iREX), taking place Nov. 29-Dec. 2, in Tokyo.
During the show, NVIDIA and more than a dozen of its partners will feature the myriad ways they are delivering the hardware and AI simulation technology needed to rapidly accelerate the deployment of the latest robotics technology. This includes NVIDIA Jetson modules for edge AI and robotics.
Notable examples that iREX attendees should be sure to check out include:
Factory and Warehouse Usage
Foodly, the collaborative robot from RT Corporation, is used in the production of processed foods and ready-made meals in factories. It’s built using the NVIDIA Jetson platform to recognize food that it will then pick up and pack into a box to automate simple tasks. Bring your appetite to booth E2-36 to see the humanoid robots in action.
The Okamura robot vehicle (ORV), based on Jetson AGX Orin, is an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) that can transport roll-box pallets in distribution warehouses. Since ORV generates its own route and runs without human guidance, it can be introduced without major floor construction work, improving productivity and saving labor. See them in booth E6-04.
Techman Robot will be featuring a digital twin of a palletize/de-palletize robot in action, built with the NVIDIA Omniverse software platform for connecting and developing OpenUSD-based 3D tools and applications. The robots will be in booth E5-19.
OMRON will showcase Sysmac Studio, an integrated development environment for industrial automation and robotics, which uses Omniverse to create photorealistic digital twins. Omron will be at booth E6-17.
Next-Generation Cobots
Kyocera Corporation will highlight an intelligent service for cooperative robots that launched in November. Continuously connected to the cloud, these robots, powered by NVIDIA GPUs and offered via a subscription model, can be operated without technicians. In addition, Kyocera will be showing technology it plans to deploy in the next one or two years. Look for them in booth E7-63.
Denso Wave will exhibit a 3D-image-recognition picking system powered by the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano. The company’s latest application is a system that enables 3D recognition with only one 2D camera in a flexible configuration using the Jetson Orin Nano. The booth is located at East E3-11.
Robots for Outdoor and Agricultural Use
CuboRex has an outdoor transport robot built with the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX to deploy AI models. They’ll be at booth E7-90.
Legmin will highlight an agriculture-focused robot that sprays pesticides on spring onions using vision AI accelerated by the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin. They will be at booth W4-19L.
ACSL will exhibit SOTEN, an industrial drone with a built-in guidance navigation system accelerated by Jetson Xavier NX for autonomous navigation in a GPS-denied environment. Watch them fly in booth W4-19E.
Yaskawa Electric uses NVIDIA technology to promote AI-enabled robotics. They’ll be at booth E5-15.
Other companies that you don’t want to miss during iREX include:
- ugo at booth E7-46
- Mech-Mind at booth E3-40
- Neubility at booth W4-04
- LIPS at booth E4-10
- Vecow at booth E4-10
See New Developments at the NVIDIA Booth
NVIDIA will be in booth E7-13at iREX, where it will highlight the use of digital twins, AMRs and the NVIDIA Jetson line of modules and developer kits.
Alongside NVIDIA, Techman Robot will demonstrate digital twins with a TM AI Cobot using NVIDIA Isaac Sim to virtually model the robot’s behavior and environment for bin picking. In addition, AI trained from synthetic data is used for object recognition by the 3D vision system embedded in the robot.
NVIDIA will show Nova Carter, a reference design robot based on the NVIDIA Isaac Nova Orin architecture, for the first time in Japan. To optimize operational efficiency and accelerate AMR development and deployment, NVIDIA offers the NVIDIA Isaac AMR open platform. The platform is modular and includes Isaac Sim for warehouse simulation and Isaac Nova Orin.
Isaac Nova Orin is a state-of-the-art computing and sensor reference architecture that accelerates the development of AMR. With the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin and a suite of sensors required for next-generation AMR, it can be used as a lidar as well as a peripheral vision-based recognition offering. It also enables vision-based recognition of the surrounding environment.
The NVIDIA Jetson family delivers the performance and power efficiency needed to build autonomous machines at the edge. With AI performance of up to 275 TOPS, NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin modules can run multiple AI inference pipelines simultaneously and support high-speed interfaces to multiple sensors. From the entry-level Jetson Orin Nano series modules to the highest-performance Jetson AGX Orin series, it is ideal for the new era of robotics.
Attendees at iREX can be among the first to experience human-robotic engagement up close and witness futuristic advancements today.
